Going Green Can Pay Off on Your Taxes

Going green can pay off in more ways than one. Under federal legislation that went into effect Jan. 1, consumers who invest this year in energy-efficient products - from insulated windows to heat pumps and hybrid cars - will be able to save on their taxes next year.

13 SEER Saves Energy But Presents Challenges

ROANOKE, Va.—All central air-conditioning systems and heat pumps manufactured on or after Jan. 23 must have an energy efficiency rating of at least 13 SEER. The larger units are 30% more efficient, but can reqire higher labor costs for both new installations and replacements.
